The canvas is your frame
In BGBG, the canvas is the complete exported image: background, foreground, and the space around it. Changing the canvas ratio changes that outer shape. It does not stretch your original screenshot or photo.
Open a project and choose Ratio. Pick Original to match the source image’s proportions, or choose one of nine fixed ratios. Original refers to the canvas shape, not the original pixel dimensions.
Choose a shape for where the image is going
A square is a useful starting point for a compact composition. Portrait ratios give tall screenshots more room. A wide canvas can leave space around a landscape photo or make an image easier to place in a presentation.
These are composition choices, not a guarantee of how another app will display your export. Check the preview in the app where you plan to post it, since it may crop or resize images.
Adjust the space around your image
- Padding adjusts the inset around the fitted image. Start small, then increase it until the composition feels balanced.
- Corners rounds the foreground image’s edges. It does not round the exported canvas.
- Size scales the foreground. Drag or use the Position sliders to move it within the canvas.
- Reset position & size centers the image and restores its fitted size.
Moving or enlarging the foreground can take it outside the padding area. Anything beyond the canvas edge is clipped in the export. Check all four edges before saving.
Understand your PNG’s dimensions
The longest edge of every export is 4096 pixels. The other edge is calculated from the canvas ratio and rounded to the nearest pixel. The Ratio controls show the dimensions before you export.

Save a version you can revisit
Use Save to Photos for your photo library, or Share PNG to share with another app or save to Files. Exported PNGs are finished images; the editable BGBG project stays in your gallery on this device.
Duplicate a project before making a second canvas size. You can then keep a square and a portrait version without recreating the background. If an export fails, see the support page for permission and saving help.
